Steps Taken To Control Viral Fever Spread In Deniyaya: No Risk Of Rapid Spread

COLOMBO (News 1st);Deputy Minister of Health Hansaka Wijemuni says steps have been taken to clean water sources in an effort to control the spread of the viral fever reported in Deniyaya.

He also that there is currently no risk of the disease spreading rapidly and urged the public not to have any unnecessary fear regarding the situation.

Health Services Director of the Southern Province N. G. S. Panditharatne says the investigation report into the spreading viral fever is expected to be received today.

The Director stated that a team from the Ministry of Health visited Deniyaya yesterday and carried out investigations.

He further said that research conducted at Karapitiya Hospital using bio-samples obtained from patients has revealed that the illness is linked to a group of viruses commonly associated with the human digestive tract.

According to the Southern Province Health Services Director, the virus mainly enters the body through contaminated water or food.

He also noted that a special discussion will be held next Monday (11) under the patronage of the Southern Province Governor regarding future measures to be taken concerning schools in the Deniyaya Education Zone that were closed due to the spreading viral fever.

Schools including Deniyaya National School, Deniyaya St. Matthew’s School, Deniyaya Rajapaksa College, and the primary section of Pallegama Siddhartha School were closed over the past two days due to the spreading viral fever.
