Cabinet Approves Electric Cars and Bikes for Police Officers

COLOMBO (News 1st); Cabinet approval has been granted to provide electric vehicles and electric motorcycles for police officers, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala has announced.

The Minister stated that approval has been given to supply 400 electric cars to police officers ranging from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police to Senior Deputy Inspector General. The vehicles are to be obtained on a lease basis from a private company.

A sum of Rs. 86 million has been proposed to be allocated for this purpose.

Meanwhile, cabinet approval has also been granted to provide electric motorcycles to police officers from the rank of constable to police inspector.

Minister Ananda Wijepala said that these motorcycles will be provided free of customs duties. He further stated that steps will be taken to offer loan facilities through a fund to enable officers to purchase the electric motorcycles.
