COLOMBO (News 1st); Iran’s semi‑official Tasnim News Agency reported that Iran’s military enforced “maritime law” on a container ship that had ignored repeated warnings.

Tasnim published the report on social media above an earlier post by the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), which said it had received a report of an incident involving a container ship 15 nautical miles (27 kilometres) northeast of Oman.

According to the UKMTO, the master of the container ship reported that the vessel was approached by one gun boat belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The gun boat then opened fire on the vessel, causing heavy damage to the bridge.

The UKMTO said no fires or environmental impact were reported, and confirmed that all crew members were safe.

Tasnim News Agency said the action was taken after the ship failed to heed repeated warnings issued by Iranian forces.
