COLOMBO (News 1st) - The gunman arrested in connection with the Akuregoda double murder is scheduled to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court today.
According to Police the suspect is a 46-year-old resident of Baddegama.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect is a former Army soldier who had legally resigned during the 2009 general amnesty.
The suspect was arrested yesterday evening in Delduwa, Ambalangoda by officers of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Homagama Division.
Police also recovered a mobile phone believed to have been used in the crime.
Further investigations are being carried out by the Western Province South Crimes Division.
Meanwhile, several other individuals are being questioned in connection with the incident, including a suspect named Dila from Polgasowita who was arrested over the transportation of a firearm.
Three other suspects had previously been taken into custody over the incident.
Attorney-at-Law Buddhika Mallawarachchi and his wife were shot dead in Thalangama, Akuregoda on the afternoon of 13th of February.
