COLOMBO (News 1st); The government has announced a Rs. 25,000 grant for each fully or partially damaged religious site to support restoration efforts following the recent disaster.
This initiative covers all faiths, ensuring that temples, churches, mosques, and kovils affected by the calamity are repaired and reinstated.
Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, Minister of Buddhist Affairs, Religious and Cultural Affairs, stated that the ministry will take full responsibility for coordinating the restoration process in consultation with religious leaders and local communities.
Detailed assessments have already begun to ensure accurate compensation and repairs.
In addition, a series of island-wide interfaith prayer programs will commence today to offer blessings for affected citizens and pay tribute to those who lost their lives.
The minister emphasized that December 9 has been declared a day of peace and reflection, marking a solemn moment for the nation to unite in compassion and resilience.
This combined effort of financial assistance and spiritual solidarity aims to heal communities and restore cultural heritage across Sri Lanka.
