Sri Lanka Navy Evacuates Critically Ill Crew Member from Cargo Vessel

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Navy, in coordination with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo, successfully evacuated a critically ill crew member from the Panama-flagged cargo vessel MV IYO, navigating in the eastern seas off Trincomalee.

The vessel, en route from Singapore to Chennai, India, reported a medical emergency involving a Filipino crew member suffering from acute abdominal distress.

Upon receiving the distress call, MRCC Colombo promptly mobilized the Navy’s Eastern Naval Command to render immediate assistance.

A naval craft, accompanied by a medical team, was swiftly dispatched to the vessel’s location.

The patient was stabilized with initial medical aid onboard and subsequently transferred ashore.

Upon arrival at Trincomalee Harbour, he was rushed to the Trincomalee General Hospital for further treatment.

This life-saving operation highlights the Sri Lanka Navy’s steadfast commitment to maritime safety and humanitarian response.

Operating under the vigilant coordination of MRCC Colombo, the Navy continues to uphold its duty to protect lives at sea, offering critical support to seafarers and fishing communities within Sri Lanka’s Search and Rescue Region.
