Court of Appeal To Hear Gunaratna Wanninayake Petition on November 10th

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Court of Appeal today ordered that the petition filed by Attorney-at-Law Gunaratne Wanninayake, seeking an order to prevent his arrest, be called up again on the 10th of November.

The petition was taken up today before the Court of Appeal Judge bench comprising its President, Justice Rohantha Abeysooriya, and Justice Priyantha Fernando.

President’s Counsel Faiz Mustapha informed the court that Attorney-at-Law Gunaratne Wanninayake had been released on bail following his appearance before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

He requested the court to fix a future date to inform the bench regarding the continuation of the petition.

Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara, who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General, and the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Attorney-at-Law Rajeev Amarasuriya, also consented to the request.

After considering the submissions, the bench scheduled the petition to be taken up again on the 10th of November.

Meanwhile, Attorney-at-Law Gunaratne Wanninayake arrived at the Western Province South Crimes Division this morning to provide a statement, in compliance with an order issued yesterday by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.

He was required to record a statement before the Officer-in-Charge regarding the incident that occurred on the 10th of October, where he was accused of verbally abusing and threatening a police officer and obstructing police duties within the Mount Lavinia Court premises.

Police stated that Wanninayake provided a statement lasting approximately two and a half hours concerning the incident.
