Sri Lanka Welcomes the Initial Phase of the Agreement for Peace in Gaza

COLOMBO(News 1st); Sri Lanka has welcomed the initial phase of the agreement for peace in Gaza, emphasizing the critical need for comprehensive and lasting peace and stability in the region.

The Foreign Ministry said Sri Lanka, having experienced profound suffering and devastation caused by conflict in the past, deeply understands the importance and true value of peace, expressing hope that this agreement will pave the way for long-lasting peace in Gaza.

Sri Lanka also commended the significant efforts led by the President of the United States, and mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye to reach the agreement.

Reiterating its support for the Palestinian people’s right to statehood, Sri Lanka urged both parties to engage in constructive dialogue to achieve lasting peace, stressing the importance of implementing UN resolutions regarding a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders.
