COLOMBO (News 1st); A man believed to be a close associate of notorious crime boss Makadure Madush was gunned down in broad daylight near Thunbodhiya, along the Horana–Panadura main road on Thursday (21).
The victim, identified as Lalith Kumara Kodagoda, aged 57, was a former officer at Kalutara Prison.
Police revealed that Kodagoda had previously been suspended from service after leaving the country without authorization.
He was also arrested in Dubai in 2019 and extradited to Sri Lanka due to his alleged involvement in organized criminal activities.
According to police reports, Kodagoda was traveling in a vehicle from Horana towards Bandaragama around 6 PM when two gunmen on a motorcycle ambushed him and opened fire using a T-56 assault rifle.
The scene of the shooting was littered with approximately 30 spent bullet casings, indicating a targeted and well-planned execution.
The body has been placed at the Panadura Hospital morgue for further examination.
