Weapons Cache Found at Home of Ex-Union Leader

COLOMBO (News 1st): A 45-year-old man identified as Chandima Jayaratne, also known by the alias "Gasma," has been arrested in Minuwangoda for illegal possession of multiple firearms and bladed weapons.

Police stated that the arrest was made early this morning (15) following a tip-off, leading to a search of the suspect’s residence.

During the operation, officers recovered a T-56 assault rifle, a 2.2mm pistol, 14 rounds of T-56 ammunition, 9 rounds of 2.2mm ammunition, 6 rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, three swords, and two knives.

The suspect is reportedly a former chairman of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya at the Airport and Aviation Services Company and currently serves as a security officer.
