COLOMBO (News 1st); Renuka Ekanayake, a member of Sri Lanka’s National Police Commission, has officially tendered her resignation, according to a statement issued by the Commission.

The resignation letter has been forwarded to the Constitutional Council for formal acknowledgment.

The National Police Commission, chaired by retired High Court Judge Lalith Ekanayake, comprises six members.

With Renuka Ekanayake’s departure, the Commission now operates with two vacant members.

This development comes shortly after Ekanayake, a former Ministry Secretary, was summoned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to provide a statement regarding an inquiry into the importation of dairy heifers from Australia between 2012 and 2017. The investigation is probing alleged irregularities in the procurement process during her tenure.

Renuka Ekanayake is also the spouse of former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake.
