COLOMBO (News 1st); Eleven Indian nationals have been placed in remand until August 7 following their arrest in Akuregoda, where they were allegedly operating an online gambling setup from a rented residence.
The arrests were made Monday (4) evening based on intelligence received by the Sri Lanka Air Force Intelligence Unit.
Acting on the tip-off, police raided the location and apprehended the suspects, who were found in possession of several electronic devices believed to be used in the operation.
Among those arrested were eight men and three women, all aged between 20 and 40.
The seized items included three laptop computers and eight mobile phones.
The suspects were presented before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court earlier today, after which they were ordered to be held in remand custody.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the group had been engaged in internet-based gambling.
