Suspect Flees After Washroom Request

COLOMBO (News 1st); A suspect linked to multiple shooting incidents in the Panadura area has escaped police custody after being handed over to the Ratnapura Police by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

In response to the incident, two sergeants attached to the Ratnapura Police have been suspended pending further inquiry.

According to police sources, the suspect—identified as Suranga Upasanka—was arrested by the CID on the 29th while hiding in the Ratnapura area. He is believed to be connected to several serious criminal activities.

Following his arrest, Upasanka was transferred to the Ratnapura Police for further investigations. 

However, he reportedly escaped from the police cell yesterday after requesting to use the washroom. When the cell door was opened, he managed to flee from the officers on duty.
