COLOMBO (News 1st); It’s not easy to be part of the best of the best. But Lieutenant Koyan Chamitha, a proud officer of the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) of the Sri Lanka Navy, has just made history — becoming the first-ever Sri Lankan to complete the U.S. Navy SEAL training program and earn the prestigious SEAL Trident pin.

After enduring 14 months of the world’s most grueling military training, Lieutenant Chamitha emerged not just as a survivor, but as a symbol of Sri Lankan grit, discipline, and elite capability. The SEAL training, known for its brutal physical and psychological demands, has a dropout rate of over 75%. Yet, Chamitha stood tall — and now wears the SEAL pin on his chest with pride.

This historic achievement marks a new chapter for Sri Lanka’s elite forces, as Chamitha brings home not just honor, but also cutting-edge tactical knowledge and global recognition. His success is expected to inspire a new generation of special forces personnel and deepen international military cooperation.

Lieutenant Chamitha’s journey is more than personal triumph — it’s a national moment of pride. From the shores of Sri Lanka to the elite ranks of the U.S. Navy SEALs, he has proven that excellence knows no borders.
