COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has announced that salaries of executive and managerial grade public officials who failed to submit their asset declarations will be subject to deductions starting tomorrow (15).

Minister of Public Administration, Prof. Chandana Abeyratne, stated that the deadline given by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption to submit annual asset declarations expired on June 30.

Despite a 14-day grace period and formal warnings issued to non-compliant officials, many have yet to fulfill this legal obligation.

The Minister confirmed that the grace period ends today (14), and a list of those who failed to comply will be handed over to the heads of relevant government institutions and the Bribery Commission.

As a result, salary deductions will be enforced from tomorrow (15), with a penalty per day deducted from the basic salary of each non-compliant official.

The asset declarations in question cover the period ending March 31, 2025. Minister Abeyratne also noted that the Bribery Commission is preparing to call for declarations from other categories of public servants in the near future.
