COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has recorded over 25,000 dengue cases so far this year, with 13 confirmed deaths, prompting renewed warnings from health authorities as the country faces heightened transmission risks during the monsoon season.
According to the National Dengue Control Unit, the Western Province remains the most affected, with Colombo and Gampaha districts identified as critical hotspots. Other high-risk districts include Ratnapura, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Kandy, and Galle.
Health officials are urging the public to take immediate action to reduce mosquito breeding grounds and protect themselves from bites. Stagnant water in household and public areas continues to be a major contributor to the spread of the mosquito, the primary vector of dengue.
Medical professionals advise that anyone experiencing fever for more than two days, especially when accompanied by body aches, joint pain, severe headaches, vomiting, or nausea, should seek medical attention immediately.
