Prisons Chief Appears Before CID Again Over Vesak Day Inmate Release Controversy

COLOMBO (News 1st); Commissioner General of Prison Thushara Upuldeniya has appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for the second time to provide a statement regarding the controversial release of an inmate from Anuradhapura Prison on Vesak Poya Day.

The police confirmed that the CID recorded a five-hour statement from Upuldeniya, starting last night and continuing into the early hours of this morning.

This follows a formal complaint filed by the Presidential Secretariat, calling for an investigation into the release of a prisoner who had not received an official presidential pardon, despite being freed under the pretense of one.
