COLOMBO (News 1st); A sudden failure in the high-voltage transmission system between Biyagama and Pannipitiya caused widespread power outages across several areas this morning, according to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

CEB spokesperson Dhammika Wimalaratne confirmed that the disruption occurred around 8:35 AM due to a technical fault in one of the transmission components. As a result, electricity supply was interrupted in parts of Kalutara and Beruwala.

The Kukule Ganga Hydropower Plant was also temporarily taken offline during the incident.

Power was gradually restored, and the transmission system was fully operational again by approximately 9:30 AM, the CEB stated.
