COLOMBO (News 1st); The Court of Appeal has scheduled June 16 to hear the appeal filed by former Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, who was convicted in a case involving a demand for Rs. 64 million from a businessman. The alleged demand was made in exchange for facilitating the development of a plot of land in the Meethotamulla area during his tenure as Chief Minister of the Western Province.

Ranatunga has requested the court to overturn the suspended prison sentence and fine imposed by the Colombo High Court and to acquit him of all charges.

The petition was taken up before the Court of Appeal bench comprising Justices Mayadunne Corea, P. Kumaran Ratnam, Damit Thotawatte, and Amal Ranaraja.

However, due to the absence of Justice Shashi Mahendran, the bench announced that the hearing would be postponed to June 16.
