Government Declares June 2–8 as National Tax Week

COLOMBO (News 1st); The President's Office has officially declared National Tax Week, scheduled to take place from June 2 to June 8, 2025, as part of a nationwide initiative to raise awareness about the importance of tax contributions and strengthen government revenue.

According to Nishantha Jayaweera, Senior Additional Secretary to the President and head of the Presidential Task Force on Revenue Administration Reform and Modernization, the week-long campaign aims to educate the public on how tax funds are utilized by the government and why citizen participation in the tax system is vital for national development.

The initiative is expected to play a key role in enhancing tax compliance and increasing state revenue. 

A series of public outreach programs and educational events will be conducted across the island by key institutions, national including the Sri Lanka Customs, the Department of Inland Revenue, and the Excise Department.

The campaign will officially be launched on Monday, June 2, under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
