COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan police have arrested three additional suspects in connection with the recent shooting targeting Thusitha Halloluwa, the former Director General of Public Relations to ex-President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
According to police sources, one of the newly arrested individuals is believed to have been the motorcycle rider who transported the gunman to the scene of the attack.
The incident occurred on May 17 near a private hospital in Narahenpita, as Halloluwa was returning from a meeting with his legal counsel.
Two assailants on a motorcycle reportedly opened fire on his vehicle, physically assaulted him, and fled with a file of documents.
Halloluwa later filed a complaint detailing the attack.
Authorities had previously arrested three other suspects, including a woman, who are currently being held in remand custody until tomorrow.
Halloluwa, who served as the Executive Director of the National Lotteries Board from 2017 to 2019, was also a key figure in former President Wickremesinghe’s communications team.
Earlier this month, on May 2, he made a controversial public statement regarding the current President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. As a result, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) questioned him for nearly seven hours on May 15.
Investigations into the motive behind the attack are ongoing.
