COLOMBO (News 1st) - Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, in her Vesak Day message, highlighted the deep spiritual significance of Vesak, commemorating the Birth, Enlightenment, and Parinirvana of the Lord Buddha, and praised the devotion of the Buddhist community across Sri Lanka in upholding age-old traditions through both material and spiritual offerings.
The Prime Minister noted that the teachings of the Buddha have long shaped the moral fabric of Sri Lankan society, and that Vesak serves as a powerful symbol of unity in a country where people of many faiths and ethnicities coexist peacefully.
She emphasised that this year’s Vesak, the first under the current government, comes at a time when the nation is striving toward meaningful transformation.
She called on all citizens to come together in spirit and compassion to heal and rebuild.
Prime Minister also expressed her hope for global peace, stating that the flames of war burning in many parts of the world may be extinguished, and all people may be blessed with lives of peace and happiness.
