COLOMBO (News 1st); Fifteen Sri Lankans who were rescued from cybercrime camps in Myawaddy, Myanmar, have been safely brought back to Sri Lanka.

They had been stranded for nearly two months at a temporary shelter in Myanmar after being denied permission to cross into Thailand via the Myanmar–Thailand border.

Following diplomatic intervention by the Sri Lankan embassies in Myanmar and Thailand, the group was escorted to Thailand earlier this week.

Their return was facilitated through the coordination of Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Myanmar and Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Thailand also assisted in bringing the group back to Sri Lanka.
