One Dead, One Injured in Shooting in Meetiyagoda

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A man was killed and another seriously injured in a shooting incident that took place last night in Thambahitiya, Meetiyagoda.

The shooting occurred while a group was consuming alcohol at a local restaurant. 

Police say four unidentified individuals arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire and fled the scene. 

Two T56 assault rifles were reportedly used in the attack.

The deceased has been identified as a 47-year-old resident of Meetiyagoda. 

The injured victim is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Balapitiya Hospital.

Police noted that the restaurant where the incident occurred is owned by a candidate contesting in this year’s local government elections, while the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
