COLOMBO (News 1st); The Grama Niladhari Officers union has declared that, although the strike that they launched has concluded, the 'work-to-rule' action remains in effect.
This ongoing union action reflects the officials' commitment to adhere strictly to their job descriptions and responsibilities, a move that often slows down administrative processes.
Neville Wijeratne, the National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Grama Niladhari Union, has voiced concerns over the Service Constitution Gazette.
According to Wijeratne, the Gazette was drafted without considering the input of the union, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among the Grama Niladhari officials.
The 'work-to-rule' action, a form of protest that involves following work rules to the letter to the point of reducing efficiency, is a direct response to the government's failure to revoke the Gazette.
Wijeratne emphasized that merely suspending the issuance of the Gazette is insufficient to address the underlying issues.
