Sri Lankan MPs Engage in Diplomatic Talks to Free Captive Citizens in Myanmar

COLOMBO (News 1st); A delegation of Sri Lankan Opposition MPs who traveled to Myanmar to address the urgent situation of 49 Sri Lankans held captive by cybercriminals in the Myawaddi region, met with the country's Deputy Foreing Minister and the Chief Sanghanayake for talks.

MPs Attorney-at-Law Wasantha Yapa Bandara, J. C. Alawathuwala, and Sujith Sanjaya Perera met with the Foreign Ministry officials there, and engaged in talks to secure the release of
the 49 Sri Lankans held captive by cybercriminals in the Myawaddi region.

The meetings took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, approximately 500 kilometers away from the site, in Yangon.

Diplomatic officials, including representatives from the Prime Minister of Myanmar, participated in the talks.

A memorandum requesting diplomatic intervention to secure the release of the detained Sri Lankans, was submitted on behalf of Sri Lankan Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.

Following these discussions, the delegated called upon the Chief Sanghanayake of Myanmar, in Yangon.
