Dengue Cases Rise in Sri Lanka Amidst Rains: Colombo, Gampaha Among Affected Districts

COLOMBO (News 1st); Dengue cases are on the rise again in Sri Lanka, particularly in Colombo, Gampaha, Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya, Kalutara, Kandy, Galle, Kurunegala, and Kegalle districts.

The National Dengue Control Unit attributes this increase to the recent rains.

Anoja Dheerasinghe, a Community Medical Specialist, advises people to maintain clean surroundings to prevent mosquito breeding.

As of now, there have been 24,323 reported dengue cases in Sri Lanka this year.

The Colombo district has reported the highest number of cases (5,212).

Nine deaths have been attributed to dengue.
