Colombo Hospital Probe: Antibiotic Use Under Scrutiny

COLOMBO (News 1st); An investigation has been launched into the death of a patient at the General Hospital, Colombo after the consumption of an antibiotic.

According to its director, Dr. Kumara Wickramasinghe, a separate investigation will be conducted into the vaccine given to the patient.

Additionally, an investigation will be launched into the patient's condition.

A gas cylinder explosion led to the victim and his spouse being admitted to the hospital with burns.

The victim, who was admitted to hospital on the 17th, was given an antibiotic yesterday.

Deputy Director of the Colombo National Hospital, Dr. Rukshan Bellana says the victim was prescribed Cefuroxime, a drug from Bangladesh.

The victim was identified as a 31 year old male.
