The Department of Meteorology has warned of increased rain and wind across the island starting today due to developing pre-monsoon weather patterns in surrounding seas.
Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters is expected in many areas, particularly in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces.
Thundershowers are likely island-wide after 2 pm. Wind speeds in the southern province could reach 30-40 kilometers per hour.
The Irrigation Department cautions of potential flooding risks, while a landslide warning remains in effect for eight districts due to the anticipated rainfall.
The Department of Meteorology advises the maritime and nautical community to avoid sailing in the Southeast Arabian Sea until further notice, as seas surrounding the island are expected to be very rough.
