Govt. inquires into Sri Lankans rescued from vessel attacked by Houthi rebels

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it has inquired regarding the two Sri Lankans who were rescued from the ship that was attacked by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea from the Djibouti authorities.

The Ministry said the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Ethiopia inquired in this regard, and called for a report promptly.

The 21 people, including the two Sri Lankans, who were onboard the cargo ship attacked by Houthi rebels were rescued yesterday with the intervention of the Indian Navy, and taken to Djibouti.

Sri Lanka Navy spokesperson Captain Gayan Wickramasooriya said one Sri Lankan sustained serious burns, while the other Sri Lankan was not injured.

The True Confidence merchant ship, which was sailing from China to Jeddah, was attacked by a Houthi Missile Strike when the bulk carrier was in the Gulf of Aden.

Three crew members were killed in the attack.
