COLOMBO (News 1st); A crowd gathered outside the Ministry of Health this morning, demanding the immediate arrest of former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.

The protest, comes amidst ongoing accusations of Rambukwella's involvement in the Human Immunoglobulin drug scandal.

Dr. Rukshan Bellana, President of the Government Medical Officers' Forum, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. "This scandal could have led to a genocide," he stated, demanding the arrest and questioning of all involved, including Rambukwella, "in the presence of the law."

Senior Lecturer Nadeeh De Silva expressed outrage at the potential impact on Sri Lanka's healthcare system. "Minister Rambukwella gambled with the lives of millions for Rs. 940 Million," he declared, questioning the authorities' reluctance to hold him accountable despite "ample evidence."

Piyath Nikeshala, an activist, drew attention to perceived inconsistencies in the investigation. "Keheliya himself filed a complaint with the CID, a well-respected unit," he noted, questioning why Keheliya remained free while others faced arrest based on "suspicion."

Sanjaya Mahawatte of the Magin Ratata Movement raised concerns about potential manipulation of evidence. "We hear reports of detectives withholding material from the courts," he stated, demanding transparency and decisive action from the CID.
