Woman arrested for operating a fake college in Colombo

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan authorities have arrested a 24-year-old woman for operating a fake education institute in Bambalapitiya.

Sri Lanka Police said the woman in question had enrolled students from all over the country, conducted an online program for the students, and thereafter awarded them with fake diploma certificates.

In addition, she had charged students fees ranging from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 445,000 for various programs.

Sri Lanka Police said that over 1,000 individuals were scammed by the woman who operated the fake education institute.

The Media Unit of Sri Lanka Police said that the institute was operating without any adherence to local or international standards, and had no authorization from the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka.
