Hamburg Airport closed after gunman with child hostage crashes car through barrier

Colombo (News 1st) - One of Germany's busiest airports was closed early Sunday (5th) when a gunman with a child in his car crashed through a barrier, fired shots into the air, and threw bottles of burning liquid, German Media Reported.

A major operation was underway as German special forces attempted to negotiate for the release of the child hostage. The man and child are apparently still in the car on the airport apron, where aircraft are parked.

The man's wife had earlier called police to report a possible child abduction.

All flight movements have been canceled. Hamburg handles over 17 million passengers a year.
