Ex-Senior Cop sentenced to prison for interfering with investigation

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe was sentenced to five years in prison by the Ratnapura High Court.

He was charged with interfering with the police investigations over the shooting in Kahawatte in 2015, which led to the death of one person and injured several others. 

The former senior DIG was charged with interfering with the police process to prevent the arrest of then-Deputy Minjister Premalal Jayasekera, who was suspected of the crime at the time.

After examining the charges against the former senior police officer, the Ratnapura High Court sentenced him to five years in prison.

In addition, he was fined Rs. 20,000/-.
