COLOMBO (News 1st); WhatsApp Channels are now available in Sri Lanka, India and over 150 countries.

This comes after the messaging app decided to change its 'Status' section to 'Updates', and channels can be found in the new tab called Updates where you will find status and channels you choose to follow.

The channels are separate from the chats, and who you choose to follow is not visible to other followers.

Originally piloted in Colombia and Singapore, Channels have grown from their limited availability to now being accessible in 150 countries.

Essentially, Channels offer a one-to-many messaging format, catering to brands, celebrities, and a range of other entities wishing to disseminate updates to a broader audience.

For now, while not everyone can initiate a Channel, users from 150 nations are set to be able to follow and interact with them.

WhatsApp Channels are set to reshape the way users interact with the platform. With global availability imminent and more functionalities on the way, WhatsApp seems primed to further solidify its position as a leading messaging app.
