COLOMBO (News 1st) –  The Department of Prisons has announced that relatives of inmates at the Galle prison have been granted another opportunity to visit.

In recent days, visits were restricted due to the outbreak of disease among the inmates.

The prison authorities have clarified that prisoners will not be removed from prison premises any longer.

Two inmates lost their lives as a result of the disease that had spread within the prison. At present, nine inmates are hospitalized, with four of them still under treatment at the Karapitiya Hospital.

A prison official says that efforts to control the spread of the disease have been effective thus far.
