COLOMBO (News 1st) – A blaze was reported at the Victoria Dambe Kanda Reserve in Ambewela early on Wednesday (16) morning. 

The Police says that despite the efforts taken by the Army, Wildlife officers and civillians in the area to douse the flames, two acres of land in the reserve were destroyed.

Meanwhile in a seperate incident a blaze was also reported in the Hakgala Reserve on Tuesday (15). 

The Department of Wildlife Conservation says that in the past few weeks major harm has been caused to the ecology in the vicinity of the Badulla and Moneragala Resrves in Sri Lanka as well.
