AIDS spread among men 7 times higher than women, says National STD/AIDS Control Programme

COLOMBO (News 1st) - According to the National STD/AIDS Control Programme, the prevalence of AIDS among men is seven times higher than among women.

Dr. Janaki Vidanapathirana, the program's director said 25 new AIDS patients were identified in the first quarter of 2023. Over the past year, a total of 607 new AIDS patients were identified, marking a 44% increase compared to the previous year.

Dr. Janaki Vidanapathirana also highlighted that same-sex relationships among men have directly contributed to this trend.
