PUCSL approves reduction of electricity tariffs

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka approved the reduction of electricity tariffs by 14.2 percent from Saturday (01).

The decision was made considering the proposal by the Electricity Board to reduce the electricity tariffs.

Accordingly, a 65% tariff reduction has been granted for the domestic category with monthly consumption of between 0 and 30 units of electricity.

The amount charged for an electric unit of that category is to be reduced from Rs.30 to Rs.10.

Meanwhile, the monthly fixed rate of that category will also be reduced from Rs.400 to Rs.150.

The rate of Rs.42 per unit of electricity will be reduced to Rs.32, for consumers in the category of less than 60 units of electricity.

The monthly fixed rate for this category has been reduced from Rs.650 to Rs.300.

For the category of 91 to 120 units, the fee charged per unit of electricity will be reduced from Rs.42 to Rs.35.

Their monthly fixed rate will also be reduced from Rs.1500 to Rs.1000.

A 16% fee reduction for religious places has also been granted.

The hotel sector has been granted a 26.3% tariff reduction.

The electricity tariff reduction granted for the industrial sector is 9%.
