Proposal to cancel LG Election nominations by Parlimentary Ministerial Consultative Committee

COLOMBO (News 1st) - State Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Janaka Wakkumbura says that a proposal has been submitted to cancel the nominations of the local government election.

The Minister says that the proposal was presented in the Parliamentary Ministerial Consultative Committee on Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils & Local Government which was held recently chaired by the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, 

State Minister Janaka Wakkambura says that several ministers who participated in the Parliamentary Ministerial Consultative Committee submitted the relevant proposal. All MPs from the opposition and the ruling party who were present at the time of the committee meeting have expressed their agreement in this regard.

They pointed out that despite an election having been announced, the future activities of the local government bodies would be severely inconvenienced by the continued delay of the election. Due to this, requests were made to submit a proposal to Parliament on the canceling of nominations of the local government election.

However, State Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government local government election.says that his ministry nor the government has yet taken a final decision in this regard. The State Minister stressed that it was only a proposal submitted to the Parliamentary Ministerial Consultative Committee.
