Permanent CoPF Chairman to be appointed this week, says speaker

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena says that a permanent chairman will be appointed this week for the Committee on Public Finance.

The Speaker told News 1st that the Parliamentary Select Committee will meet next Friday to take a decision regarding the matter. The position of Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance in Parliament has been vacant for over three months.

Several MPs representing the ruling party were appointed as temporary chairmen on four occasions. Chief opposition whip Lakshman Kiriella says that he has filed a complaint to international organizations including the Inter-Parliamentary Union regarding the main opposition party not receiving the chairmanship of the Committee on Public Finance.
