COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for several provinces in Sri Lanka. According to the department, there is a possibility of showers or thundershowers in the Eastern, Uva, North, North Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces during the evening. The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Moreover, the department has also alerted the public about the heat index in Western, North-West, North, North Central, and Eastern provinces, as well as Monaragala, Ratnapura, and Hambantota districts, which remains at a level of risk. To prevent heat exhaustion, the department has issued a series of guidelines for those living in these areas.

It is recommended to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated while staying in the shade as much as possible. Light-coloured or white clothing should be worn to stay cool, and engaging in strenuous activities should be limited. These measures will help to prevent heat exhaustion and keep individuals safe during this period of high temperatures.
