"Aluth Sahal Mangallaya" to take place at Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The New Rice Festival "Aluth Sahal Mangallaya" will take place at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, in accordance with tradition. The festival will be presided over by President Ranil Wickremesinghe. 

This event dates back to the time of the Kings and Queens, and it involves farmers from each of the nine districts offering a portion of their first harvest to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi as a sign of gratitude before the start of the new year.

The Ministry of Agriculture, the Department of Agrarian Development, and the Anuradhapura District Secretariat have jointly organized the annual New Rice Festival, which started yesterday. This event is considered highly auspicious, and it involves several ceremonies which have already commenced yesterday.

The tradition of the New Rice Festival continues to this day, an important occasion for farmers and the community as a whole.
