COLOMBO (News1st); The Ceylon Petroleum Trade Union Collective has commenced a satyagraha opposite the Kolonnawa Terminal.

Chairman of Petroleum branch of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya, Jagath Wijegunaratne says that the satyagraha is being carried out against the attempts to privatize the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.

He says that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) is currently making profits, and terms these times as the "golden era" of the CPC.

Wijegunaratne says that the profit of last month alone is Rs. 9 bn, and the profit of the month of January is Rs. 13 bn.

He points out that even under such circumstances, the government and the subject Minister are planning on handing over the control of 600 filling stations to a foreign multinational company.

Wijegunaratne says that if this continues, it would mark the end of the CPC.
