Colombo (News 1st) - Pakistani security forces have withdrawn from around Imran Khan's house in Lahore to allow tonight's Pakistan Super League cricket match to go ahead, Pakistani media reported. Police have been battling for almost a full day to reach the Opposition Leader's house to arrest him on a number of charges, but have been blocked by hundreds of Khan's supporters.
Police and protesters fought running battles throughout the night and morning as authorities fired tear gas and water cannons, but the crowd would not yield.
Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, located roughly 10km (six miles) from Khan's house at Zaman Park, is scheduled to host a PSL match between Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultan at 7 pm on Wednesday. The teams must pass close to Khan's house to get to the stadium.
Crowds celebrated as police pulled back. But it is unclear if the security forces would return later.
