COLOMBO (News 1st) – Chairman of the National Election Commission Attorney Nimal Punchihewa has refuted rumours being spread that he is planning on submitting his resignation to the NEC.

"Paying any heed to these rumours is a waste of time", he said.

"All preparations are being made to hold the local government election", Attorney Punchihewa said.

"The resignation of one member of the Election Commission does not affect the Commission's ability to hold the election", he added.

The Chairman of the commission was responding to the media reports regarding the resignation of member of the Election Commission P.S.M. Charles, and said he has not yet been officially informed of her resignation.
