Hirunika leads Black Ribbon protest in Galle Face; Ties black ribbons on Independence Day platforms

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Hirunika Premachandra, the National Organizer of the Samagi Vanitha Balavegaya led a protest at Galle Face Green opposite the platforms set up for Sri Lanka's 75th Independence Day celebrations.

The Sri Lankan Government is preparing to celebrate the 75th National Independence Day at a cost of Rs. 200 Million. 

Recently, Ashoka Priyantham, the State Minister of Home Affairs said an estimate was given for Rs. 575 Million , and was cut down to Rs. 200 Million following lengthy discussions.

Hirunika Premachandra led the protest in Colombo noted that the government that has funds to set up platforms and canopies for the Independence Day, while the people are struggling.

She invited all Sri Lankans to visit Galle Face in Colombo and express their protest by wearing black bands, and holding black flags.

She also sympathized with the armed forces' personnel, and police officers, who were seen practicing for the Independence Day celebrations.
