COLOMBO (News 1st) – Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe summoned the members of the National Election Commission for an emergency meeting at the President's Office.

A Senior Official at the National Election Commission told News 1st that the meeting took place based on an invitation extended by the President.

It was reported that the Attorney General was also present for the meeting.

The members of the National Election Commission had informed the President that there is no way to prevent the Local Government Elections from taking place, unless via constitutional or judicial action.

The Election Commission officials had informed the President of the future programs relating to the election.
