Fraud at Palmyrah Development Board; Two employees terminated

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Palmyrah Development Board has terminated the services of a Deputy General Manager, and an Auditor for committing fraud.

Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board Krishantha Pathiraja said another two employees have been suspended for the same incident.

The Ministry in-charge of the Palmyrah Development Board had launched a special audit with regard to a financial fraud of Rs. 38 Million, and abuse of power.

The Deputy General Manager, Auditor and two other employees were found guilty by the audit.

Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board Krishantha Pathiraja said that the group had procured a device to produce palmyrah jaggery, however they had not made use of the device and neglected it completely.

Investigations had revealed that the Deputy General Manager, and the Auditor were serving at two universities and drawing salaries, while obtaining a salary from the Palmyrah Development Board.
