COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka Police deployed its K-9 unit to trace drugs in schools. 

One K-9 unit from the Sri Lanka Police College, Kalutara was deployed close to a school in Kalutara, in the country's western province.

Sri Lankan authorities have decided to intensify raids close to schools to crack down on drugs.

Police Spokesperson & Attorney SSP Nihal Thalduwa told News 1st that intelligence personnel have also been deployed for this purpose, adding 

that the Police Special Task Force will also be assigned to crackdown on drugs.

He said police officers in civil attire will be assigned to schools, and the relevant instruction was given to all police stations in the country.

In addition, the Community Police Division will monitor traders located close to schools.

Police Spokesperson & Attorney SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that the same security program will be implemented near tuition classes as well.
